Most companies facing network problems are expecting software-defined networking (SDN) to provide solutions.  According to a survey commissioned by Avaya, the top three problems experienced by today’s companies are service configuration, application performance and network management.  These areas are also where most people believe SDN can help.  As many as 97% of respondents expect SDN to solve at least one of their specific network problems.

In addition, 99 percent of the IT professionals interviewed want SDN to extend beyond the data center; however, nearly the same amount (93%) say the ability to do so today is extremely or moderately limited.  Of the challenges that IT professionals are looking to SDN to solve, 80 percent insist that SDN programming must be simple before they will adopt.

In this survey, 1,421 IT professionals have been interviewed.  They come from large companies across 15 countries, including the US, the UK, France, Germany, South Africa, Spain, Italy, Russia, Japan, Australia, India, China, Brazil, Mexico and Argentina.

Extending SDN simplicity to the network edge Addressing to the needs of today’s dynamic applications, Avaya has announced a new and open SDN architecture to help companies create agile networks.  The Avaya SDN Fx architecture is the first to deliver “connect anything, anywhere” simplicity, shaving weeks in provisioning time by allowing devices and users at the network edge to be added easily to the network.

The Avaya SDN Fx architecture, built on the Avaya Fabric Networking technology, features new products and capabilities for a complete solution that delivers on the promise of SDN, without the hidden complexity that comes with the towering overlays of software and hardware inherent in many other vendor approaches.
